Following the release of Parallel Lines, the band would achieve worldwide success, while their lead singer achieved celebrity status. Australian Mike Chapman produced their third album. They would do multiple takes of each song using a 24 track recording machine. The album took six weeks to record at the Record Plant, New York in 1978. Heart of Glass, was their first chart topper from the album. Eat to the Beat
The classic album Eat to the Beat was released in 1979. Autoamerican
Autoamerican was released in 1980. Promotion for the record by Chrysalis records was limited by the fact they were, at this time, also pushing lead singer Debbie Harry’s debut solo album, KooKoo.
The New Wave group Blondie released a string of hit singles, and had 4 Billboard No. 1 Hits.
