A 2021 survey by Ipsos found that 40% of Americans still thought the best music was that produced in the 1980's. Eighties music can be found everywhere, including on retro radio stations TV commercials and at nostalgia musical nights... . as well as, hearing the same songs played at weddings, parties, clubs, and being sung at renditions in the karaoke bar. During the 80's the Hot 100 was based collectively, on each single's weekly physical sales and airplay on American radio stations. The airplay figures were compiled from radio station playlists. Physical figures were from store sales reports.
